On 14 September 1995 in Ottawa, the first meeting of what would become known as the Canadian Peace Officers’ Memorial Association (CPOMA) was held. Once the decision was made to form the CPOMA, work began to formalize the first Police & Peace Officers’ Memorial ceremony. On Sunday 29 September 1996 this first unified Police & Peace Officers Memorial was held on Parliament Hill, Ottawa.
